Mommy Can I

I was really weak for 2 days with my diet

It seems as if I WANT to sabatoge myself. I don’t really need the fast food, but sometimes I just cannot resist. I’ll just take the last 2 days as my “body shock” days. I usually try to allow myself at least 1 day to eat whatever I want, but not overdoing it. I didn’t overdo it, but my choices weren’t exactly healthy.

I’ve also gotten lazy about writing down what I’m eating, but I have been trying to update my Sparkpeople page so that I can see my calorie count. I’ve missed a couple days, but I’ll get back to it.

Not sure if I’ll have any weightloss this week, just as long as I don’t gain more than a pound, I’ll be okay.

We’re headed to visit family and I know I will enjoy my mom’s cooking. I’ll just remain on my smaller portions and try to go for a walk at least 3 times a week while I’m there.

We went to the pool today!

Our housing community has a swimming pool; even a kiddy pool that’s 2 feet deep. I promised Scoober we’d go to the pool at 10:30am, which is when it opens. It was only in the upper 60’s, but the sun is so strong here, it feels a lot warmer than that.

The water was cold, but not freezing, so Scoober didn’t want to get all the way in. We spent about an hour at the pool. Scoober finally went in the entire pool just before we left. He still won’t stick his head in the water.

I put my feet in the water and put Winks feet in the water. She started to cry, so I pulled hers out. Just too cold for her yet.

Winks is feeling much better!

Whew! After going to the doctor yesterday, I found out that there is a nasty stomach virus out there. Winks was feeling a lot better yesterday so I was hesitant to go to the doctor, but I figured after 5 days, I had better take her just to make sure. Now we can fly to see family and I don’t have to worry about her.

She’s doing much better and has been able to take the soy formula and even some solids. I will be able to start her back on her regular formula, but I must do it slowly, 1 oz at a time.

Resolved dental issue

Well, I called the CA kids dentist to find out why they had not cashed the 2 checks we had sent for payment of dental claims we had received insurance benefits for. At first, the lady tried to tell me that they didn’t have any record of payment. It wasn’t until I told her I had a signed return receipt from their office that she said they would look through their files. Guess what? They found them!

Also, I called Honeyhusband’s insurance to find out if this was the first filing of these claims since they were over a year old and nothing was filed with insurance until 2008. Yep, this was the first they had received the claims. SHE tried to tell us that it was somehow my honeyhusband’s fault and he was holding EOBs and not sending them to her, and that it was the insurance’s fault also because the dental office had tried to file the claims and nothing was processed. Clearly the dental office was trying to cover up their bolo because if they had tried to file the claims in 2007, and there was a problem, the insurance company would’ve issued an EOB so there would be a correction.

Not sure if we are going to respond to HER letter to us claiming that it was honeyhusband’s and the insurance company’s fault. Don’t even know if it’s worth it, because nothing is every anyone elses fault.

Just glad we were able to find out what was going on!

Gearing up for vacation…

We are heading out to the east to visit my family! Woohoo! Since moving out west, we really miss seeing them every weekend for Sunday dinner, and I know they miss seeing the kids grow up. It’s so great that we have Internet and E-mail capabilities to keep us in touch more regularly.

I will be flying out with Scoober, who has flown before, and Winks, who hasn’t flown before with Darling Husband (DH). I’m a little nervous, but you know, I’m pretty sure I’ll be fine. DH cannot take us to the airport as planned, but Mr. Grizzly (DH Cousin) is going to take us. It’s so nice to actually have some family close by to help us if they can. Mr. & Mrs. Grizzly are very nice people and after not seeing them since 2001 when I first met them, when we moved here, it was like we had been in touch with them ever since. Great people!

Our flight is a direct one, which I highly recommend if flying with kids to avoid having to switch planes. When it was just me and Scoober, it was no big deal, he liked to get on different planes, but with a baby, direct is the way to go! I’ll have to post about our experience when we return.

Winks hasn’t been feeling so great.

On Saturday, we took Scoober and Winks on a train ride up in the mountains. I had noticed that Winks wasn’t really eating as much as usual, but I just thought it was a phase. Well, when we got to the train depot before bording, she had filled her pants with the smelly stuff! It was VERY yucky. Luckily, it didn’t ruin any of her clothes.

After the train ride, we went to dinner where she managed to fill her pants again with the stinky stuff and this time it got on her clothes. That was an experience since the restaurant, which we had been to before, didn’t have a changing table in the bathroom, so I was forced to change her on the floor. It was a good thing I had my new diaper bag with the changing mat, or it would’ve been one cold and hard floor for Winks.

The next day, Winks couldn’t keep her formula down and she was having diarrhea all day. We bought some pedialyte and she did take that 1 ounce at a time, and her body seemed to tolerate that. She got through the night okay, but the next day she still had some diarrhea, but nothing like the night before. She was able to take some formula, but no solids. She slept a LOT, but seemed fine otherwise.

FF to today, she has had 2 bowel movements and they are still a little runny, but they do have some consistency to them; so I’m hoping she’s getting over it. She’s managed to eat some solids today (applesauce and rice cereal), plus her formula, which she’s only had maybe 8 oz total so far today. She’s taken 2 naps, which is her norm.

This entire time she’s not had a fever, I’m watching her softspot, but now that she’s actually taking formula I’m not as worried about her dehydrating, and she’s back to her cute self.

Why didn’t I take her to the doctor? Well, if she still had diarrhea yesterday, I was going to take her. BUT, I figured that unless she was lethargic and seemed dehydrated, then it was best to just watch her from home and not to pay someone $15.00 to tell me to do everything I was already doing. I only know what to do because Scoober had something similar when he was 18 months old, but he had a virus and couldn’t keep anything down, not even the pedialyte. So, since Winks could keep pedialyte down, I didn’t drag her out.

Sometimes I get nervous and don’t know if I made the right decision or not, but I don’t want to run into the doctor, exposing her to even more germs, when I can go on what I know.

We are flying to the east coast to see my family, and I’m hoping that her bowel movements will be back to normal before then. I’m sure they will be, but if they aren’t by tomorrow, then I’ll give a call to the doctor.

Sparkpeople

So, I decided to start tracking my weight online with SparkPeople.com. My sister-in-law is registered on the site and is starting her weightloss journey, and she told me about it and I thought I would use it, too. I was journaling my daily food intake and weighing myself every week anyway, so why not use the online tools to tell me my calories, etc. and give me great recipes, etc.

I’ll still track my progress here, but I am so excited to see reports on my progress online.

Happy days!

Mondays are my weigh-in days. I wasn’t expecting to lose much because we had company and I didn’t really do that well counting my points, but I did eat the smaller portions, or tried to. To my surprise, I actually lost 2.6 lbs this past week. I was so happy, I started jumping up and down. I’m finally under 190 and I couldn’t be happier.

I’m back on track with my food journal this week.
