Weight loss is coming along…

So, I’ve maintained my WW points system and made sure I stay within my daily/weekly points. My biggest struggle is drinking water. I use to be able to drink a lot of water, but now with the baby chasing her around, I never seem to be able to drink unless we are sitting down for a meal.

I’m down a pound this week and another inch off my waist. I think the biggest change is my exercise. I’ve started a low impact walking series by Leslie Sansone. This has helped with the inches coming off my hips and waist.

I’m seeing a specialist about my hernia surgery I had last year. I’m hoping to get the green light to do abdominal exercises so I can get some more inches off my waist.

I’ve still got 34 more pounds I’d like to lose, but I’ll settle for 14 more before the end of the year. Getting down to a size I can find clothes in a little easier without spending a fortune is my goal and to also feel healthy in my skin.

How my weight loss is going…

Well, I’ve managed to lose the weight I supposedly gained the 1st week back from vacation. Now at 186 and I also lost 1 inch off my waist and hips.

I’ve been walking to a workout video, Leslie Sansone WalkSlim system, Fast Start with 3 fast miles. I’ve only gotten up to the 2 miles because it is a good workout, especially if you haven’t exercised in a while.

I’ve also bought some Smart Ones, weight watcher meals. I had one yesterday for lunch, Swedish Meatballs. It was pretty good. I had a salad with it. It was 6 points. Lunch is more worst meal to try to eat healthy, so I wanted some already prepared meals so that I don’t have to think about what I’m cooking.

Winks and her funny faces

So, Winks is 8 1/2 months old now. She has started to make the funniest faces. She’s doing this pig snort thing and crinkles up her nose and everything. I’ve been unsuccessful in getting a picture of it, so I’ll have to get one and post it later.

Husband’s kids report cards

Every year, Husband’s ex usually sends us report cards so that he can see how they are progressing in school. We don’t get many more volunteered information about the kids, but it’s nice to see that they are excelling in school.

Son #1 is getting straight A’s finally. He had a bit of a struggle earlier in his education, but seems to be doing fine now. Daughter #1 has started high school and has realized that she MUST study. These are her words, not ours. She did manage to get A’s and B’s, but she got her first ever C’s during the school year.

I don’t post much about the kids from Husband’s first marriage, because frankly, I don’t know much about them. I have met them, when they were 5 and 6, talked to them a few times, but that’s about it. They don’t call and when Husband does call they usually aren’t home or don’t call back. This was the first year that Husband DID NOT get a Father’s Day card. I didn’t bring it up, but I know he had to be thinking of that.

Ex seems to use the report cards as a way to flaunt that they are in private schools. It’s kind of her way of “see, I told you they would do better in private schools” type of dig at Husband. He has always believed that the kids didn’t NEED private schools, but in CA ex says that it’s necessary because the schools aren’t good. She chose to move there, so it’s really her own personal choice. We cannot afford to send Scoober to private schools, we just compensate for anything he may be lacking at home.

That’s enough about that. This will turn into more of a rant than showing that we are proud of the kids and that they are excelling in school.

Some ways to stretch your grocery dollar

My mom is my inspiration in how to find ways to save money. I posted the other day of a couple things that I found and that my mom helped me find. Here is another one:

www.angeltreeministries.com

This is not only a charitable organization, they are now supplying $30 food boxes for you to purchase. Go to the website and type in your zip code to find out if there is a host site where you are. There is one near me and the $30 food box gets you a LOT of different things, fresh and frozen included. Also, once you purchase the $30 food box, you can purchase special boxes ranging from $18 to $20. One of the $18 boxes includes fresh fruit and veggies! My location requires that you pay in advance giving a deadline to place an order. They even accept Paypal payments, food stamps, cash or credit card payments over the telephone.

This is one way to stretch your grocery dollar. Most things in the $30 box are things you’d normally buy at the store, including milk!

Traveling with small children on airplanes

So, we are back from our trip! We made it! I have an 8 month old and a 6 year old. I wasn’t sure how it would go, especially with the baby because I have never flown with a child under 3 years old.

What I packed:
*8 diapers
*Plenty of wipes in that travel container that comes with Huggies
*I bought a formula bowl that holds 3 compartments for formula.
*I brought 2 changes of clothes (onesies), sweater, hat, receiving blanket, 1 bottle, 1 spoon, 1 jar of food, and favorite link toys, of and of course a pacifier.
*I also packed; baby tylenol, children’s tylenol, Imodium (for me), hand sanitizer, wet ones travel pack, mints and chapstick.
*I let Scoober pack his own backpack; included some small books with games in them, one lego project, snacks, wallet, sweater.

Now, we flew Frontier, which has television screens on the back of every seat. This was great, for both kiddos. Scoober wanted to watch regular TV, which costs $5.99 for our 2 1/2 hour flight. He ended up watching the flight path, which was free, so I did not purchase the TV on the way home. Winks loved watching the screen, when she was awake, also.

We flew at 3pm leaving, which was perfect since Winks usually is napping during this time. I gave her a bottle before we took off, mainly because she saw me mixing it. She finished it before we took off, and then took her pacifier so I wasn’t sure how it would go. She fell asleep during take off and slept about 1/2 way through the flight. The rest of the flight she was happy and VERY squirmy!

When we left, we flew out at 8pm. Our flight was delayed, but I managed to not give Winks her bottle until we started to taxi. We had dinner before we went through security and I fed her while we ate, as well. Winks finished her bottle as we were taking off and stayed awake for a few minutes, mainly because she heard other babies crying. I was praying that she didn’t start crying, as well. She fell asleep, and I kid you not, slept the entire flight!

Scoober was a little more antsy on the way back, probably because he was tired because it was so late due to the time change. He fell asleep 1/2 way through the flight and slept till we landed.

All in all, I would have to recommend Frontier to anyone with kids. We usually fly Southwest, but Frontier had a direct flight to our location, which I also recommend if you can find one. It’s definitely worth the extra expense. Bring your own snacks though because they are SO expensive on the plane. Drinks are free, but we bought juice and water before boarding.

Also, I highly recommend bringing a stroller. Not your large expensive one, but an umbrella stroller. It was so much easier to maneuver and to have Winks in it instead of carrying her. Plus, I didn’t have to stress about if my expensive jogger stroller got broken while stored below the plane.

Tips: Travel when children are usually napping. Feed children before boarding the plane. Make sure EVERYONE goes to the bathroom before you board the plane. Change the baby’s diaper before boarding the plane.

I did pretty good while on vacation

I actually managed to lose a couple more pounds, which is very good considering the food I was eating. I just tried to stay within my smaller portions and drink a lot of water.

Now that I’m home, I can try to start exercising and keep track of my food intake.
