So, I got up at 2:30am to “wake up” for my 3:30am pickup from Mrs. Grizzly. She and her mother were awake and ready to shop.

We first headed to Kohl’s where I was able to pick up an Oster bread machine, makes 2 lb loafs for $59.99 with a $20 mail-in rebate. Regular price $89.99. This is at 4am opening.

We then headed to Wal-Mart, which was open, but the sales and pallets didn’t get opened until 5am. I was able to get a board game, which was supposed to be $5, but rang up $15, so I’ll have to go back on that one. I got a DVD for $9.99, new release. I got a couple Better Homes and Gardens 30 x 56 towels for $4/each. I got a 320 GB portable hard drive for $49. I got 600 ct sheets for $29.

We headed to Target, which it was about 7:30am now since we waited so long in line to checkout at Wal-mart. I wasn’t able to find what I wanted there.

Then we headed back to Kohl’s where I picked up a Quesadilla maker for $19.99 with a $10 mail-in rebate, and a reversable down comfortable, regular price $149.99 and they were on sale for $29.99!

I received $10 in Kohl’s cash during the first trip, so I’ll go back next week after they post their weekly sales and see if I can pick up another gift.

I’m just about finished with Scoober, and I need to be creative with Winks.

One tip: Black Friday doorbusters for Toys R Us are still going on, online till 10pm, so go check it out if you still have some kids to shop for!

A trip to the ER, again, but all is well

A couple weeks we were in the hospital with Winks because she fell into a drawer in the kitchen and needed the liquid stitches. She got a boo boo bear and a lot of attention.

Well, yesterday during recess he hit his head on the play equipment and was sent to the nurses office where the put an ice pack on it for 10 minutes, the principal called me to alert me what had happened and that he was fine and if he started showing signs of a serious head injury they would call me right away. Day went without incident and he came home.

There was no bump on the side of his head where he hit, which we were a little concerned about, but when we asked him if he cried, etc. he said no. So, Husband and I were thinking it probably wasn’t as bad as one would have us to believe.

FF to dinnertime. We decided to go out for dinner since I got paid, it’s a special thing we do every two weeks with my paycheck. Anyway, at dinner we asked how he was feeling and he said that his head hurt a little and that he was a little dizzy and his vision was blurry. So, we finished up dinner and stopped by the house to get the paper from school with the time of hte incident, etc. and headed to the ER.

After 2 hours of waiting and examination, Scoober is fine. He passed all his tests they gave him with flying colors, which was a good thing, and they said to just wake him up once during the night to make sure he knows where he is and who we are.

When the doctor left, I told Scoober that if he was not telling the whole truth about his head hurting and being dizzy that we just took time away from the doctor who might need to help someone else that is hurting a lot worse than he was. Scoober then asked if he was going to get a boo boo bear like Winks. Sigh. I really hope that wasn’t the only reason he wanted to go to the ER.

Lesson learned here; you cannot doubt your children especially when they’ve been hurt at school and you get a note from the nurse, but next time I may just monitor him at home closely and if he starts to vomit or falldown a lot, then I will take him to the ER.

Expensive lesson to learn, and we’ve still not gotten the ER bill for the copay for Winks, but it may be around $60 for her, and now $60 for Scoober. Not that it should be about money, and I’ve never been one to rush my kids to the hospital or doctor at the first sign of a sneeze, but I hope that last night’s trip showed Scoober that being sick or hurt is nothing to play around with.

Wonder what today holds? Oh, and this morning, he says he’s okay but his head hurts a little. Off to give him some tylenol.

Today was a little tough

You know, when you’re tired and exhausted, it’s hard not to loose your cool. I’m not perfect and I don’t plan on ever being perfect. Today I was a little loud, not yelling or screaming, but I had to raise my voice a few more times than I would’ve liked. A couple times, I probably didn’t have to, but I did.

I did not give into temptation to just let Scoober have what he wanted though, so that was a win. He didn’t feel like eating dinner, so I gave him 2 choices, he either did his homework and then eats dinner, or goes to bed and he didn’t get credit for his homework. He chose the first choice. I still think giving him choices is a good thing, but he only gets 2, it’s either one or the other, no in between. He used to give us another choice, but not anymore.

All in all, not a bad day, just tough for me. It’s harder for me, because I’ve got to watch and control my behavior to correct Scoobers. Now Winks is starting her tantrum phase and it’s a whole new deal with her. With Scoober, we had to keep him quiet due to the environment we were in, so most of the time we catered to him everytime he cried, whined, etc. Now that we are out of that environment and I can let Winks figure some stuff out on her own, it may be a little different at this age the 2nd time around.

Isn’t Spring here yet?

I guess the groundhog was right for us folks out West. We were only supposed to get < 1 inch of snow today, but instead we got about 3 to 4 inches, gusty COLD wind and 30 degree temperatures. The roads were slick, slushy and icey this morning. I did not go into work, but instead stayed home. Now I have to work tomorrow, which I would rather have off, but the weather dictated my schedule this week.

We are set to receive another hit of cold weather Wed and Fri – Sat. Hopefully, it won’t be like today.

I started a new job!

Today was my first day at my new part-time job. It was overwhelming and exciting. There is a lot of work to be done in organizing and getting to a workable stage for me. At least I know what is expected and, it’s a lot, but I am definitely up to the challenge.

You know the best part is that I can take Winks with me. She still plays in her saucer, but would be more comfortable in her playpen. My goal is to get the office cleaned up enough that I could actually set it up for her.

What am I thankful for?

It’s a little late, but I did reflect on what I’m thankful for this year, we just discussed it instead of writing it:

  1. A wonderful and loving family with HUGE hearts.
  2. Parents that never stop loving me even though I’m all grown up.
  3. Brothers who are wonderful fathers and even though we didn’t always get along as kids, I cherish the relationships we have now.
  4. My children as they make me laugh everyday and amaze me.
  5. That I’m able to learn new things and see things in a new light through my children’s eyes.
  6. For my loving husband, that even though years have been tough at times, we have always been able to get through it together and are stronger because of it.
  7. To my friends near and far, I’m grateful to have such loyal people in my life that even though years go by without seeing each other, I still can call them my friends.
  8. To be able to stay at home and see Winks grow up and be home when Scoober gets out of school to hear about his day.
  9. To have such nice extended family and how they have embraced me.
  10. Financial stability, as we are finally getting through the red and into the black.

I NEVER go shopping the day after Thanksgiving, EVER!!! This year though, I am not able to say that, and I’m happy about it.

Our local HD advertised Christmas Trees with LED lights, cool burning, 7 1/2 feet, for $49.99, regularly $199.99. After discussing with Husband, he said to use the CC and go get it and we would pay it off next billing cycle. We really needed a new tree because the one we have has been used almost 10 years and it getting pretty flimsy. So, off we went; me, Scoober, and Winks around 10am to HD, which was pretty busy. Salespeople were waiting at the door, and as soon as I found the trees Scoober got a salesman and we put it aside while we walked around and looked at all the decorations. There were only 4 left, and only 1 mult-colored one left. They were going fast!

I walked away with a beautiful tree, a glue gun and some new ornaments for all under $70.00. So, I saved close to $130.00!

Today, it’s not black Friday, but I am going out. There is snow on the ground here, so it will be a nice “shopping for Christmas” day. Next week, I hope to be finished and I am pleased to report that we have not charged anything that we cannot pay off the next billing cycle! Hooray!

Life in our house!

We are doing fine. Things got a little hectic last month for some reason, but things are better now. We are preparing for the holidays. I’ve got almost all Scoober’s Christmas presents bought and will concentrate on Winks next month. I’m just so happy that we’ll actually be able to afford to buy presents and not charge them this year. It’s a great feeling.

Winks is crawling like there is no tomorrow. She’s still a little hesitant on taking those first steps, but you can see determination when she wants something. She’s got these cute expressions, like what did you say? We turned her around and she’s now in her front facing car seat. Just another reminder that she’s growing up and she’s not going to be a baby much longer. :(

Scoober is doing much better, socially, in school. He was having some trouble, even being sent to the Principal’s office for a major referral, but he has turned it around and is in a special “lunch bunch” social group once a week with the school counselor. He really looks forward to that, and it’s very structured lessons. He is doing better using words instead of his fists to solve problems. The other day a boy pushed him down and said, you’re dead. Logan got a bump on his head, but he said to the boy, “keep your hands to yourself and quit being a bully”.  I think he’s figuring it out, so we’ll just stay in touch with him and he’ll be okay i’m sure.

Husband finally got his pay increase last pay period. This helps us a lot because we are finally in the black every month! Hooray! Husband is finding that he surrounded by drama at work, but he knows he’s supposed to learn something from this. I told him, I think the lesson is how to not let the drama effect him and to just do the job and track everything, saving e-mails, etc. to make sure he is covered and then the drama will not come his way. I think his lesson is to learn patience, tolerance of things he has no control over, and acceptance that every environment is different. No complaints, he just hates the estrogen drama, as he calls it.

I’m not working part-time anymore for the Grizzly’s. The majority of the work is caught up, we finished the USAF contract and now I will just fill in when they need me. That is fine because I was starting to miss being home and spending time with Winks and doing the normal household things I was use to doing during the week. Amazing how things pile up when you aren’t home. I babysat for one week for a young couple that were moving to VA. The little girl was just 3 months older than Winks. They got along well, but the little girl started to get territorial with me and would get upset if Winks crawled over to be held by me, too. They are gone now and hopefully her parents can figure out everything and give her some stability.

We are also Tiger Cub den leaders now! We just finished up our meetings for November and the popcorn sales. Scoober sold enough popcorn to go to camp and also do some other activities if he wants. He chose a telescope and microscope for his prizes. We pulled it out last night and he really had a fun time looking at the different things under the microscope. Scouts is fun! I am learning as I go along, but doing it as a family is even more fun! Winks is very cooperative, too. Probably because it’s close to her bedtime when we have our meetings. Husband and I switch off tending to her during the meetings. He opens the meetings, then I do the craft, he closes the meeting. It’s a team effort and it is working so far.

Well, I’m off to start today’s cleaning and catching up on laundry. With Scoober off next week for 3 days and then 2 days for the weekend, I want to get everything done this week so we can just hang out.

Long time for me….

Yes, I know, I’ve been really bad about posting in my blog. Things just ramped up around here with Scoober in school and Winks on the crawl.

A lot has happened. Scoober has now lost 2 teeth, one has already come back in, but the other he just lost last week. Winks is still working on her teeth and we are wondering where they are!

Winks is now standing and walking along furniture, walls, etc. She is finally up on her knees and hands and is crawling so fast you would swear she was running.

Husband has been taking the bus to work, which has saved us on gas. It takes him about 1 hour and 20 minutes one way to get to work, versus 45 minutes to drive, but he’s taking it in stride and enjoying that time to read and catch up on some studying.

I’m enjoying a new thing in my life and that is helping Mr. Grizzly (Husband’s cousin) with his framing business. I helped him get a military contract for some space art and we’ll be busy working on that soon. When I’m not helping prepare bids for contracts, I am working in the shop setting pictures, putting art into frames and getting them ready to ship. I even learned how to cut acrylic, which is like scratching your fingernails on a chalkboard.

Winks goes with me, which is the best part. She plays in her saucer and enjoys playing with “the boys”, Mr. Grizzly’s 2 dogs. I’m very lucky that she is a flexible baby and likes to go do things. Soon, I’ll need to bring the playpen for her to hang out in when she gets tired of the saucer.

We went to the pool today!

Our housing community has a swimming pool; even a kiddy pool that’s 2 feet deep. I promised Scoober we’d go to the pool at 10:30am, which is when it opens. It was only in the upper 60’s, but the sun is so strong here, it feels a lot warmer than that.

The water was cold, but not freezing, so Scoober didn’t want to get all the way in. We spent about an hour at the pool. Scoober finally went in the entire pool just before we left. He still won’t stick his head in the water.

I put my feet in the water and put Winks feet in the water. She started to cry, so I pulled hers out. Just too cold for her yet.
